Not common: It is not common, but for an individual with chronic urticaria it can be. If it happens once, would chalk it up to random event. If it is recurrent, I would suspect cholinergic urticaria, or maybe contact sensitivity to rubber or seminal plasma. You can try an over the counter antihistamine (be sure to read the warnings), but let your doctor know about it if it persists.

Interesting: Well, she's likely contacting something she's allergic to. Maybe the condom(latex) or the gel or your cologne, hairgel, something you just ate that's on your lips (peanuts), etc. Rarely some people will get hives when they exercise.

Unusual: Urticaria during or after sex is unusual. It may be related to several factors including but not limited to: condom use, lubricant use, or semen allergy.

Sci Fi Plot: Some women, and this is very rare, develop allergy antibodies to male semen resulting in anaphylaxis during or after intercourse. One symptom of anaphylaxis is hives. But you referred to "they". There are only 2 things that can give a man hives during intercourse - latex allergy if he is using a latex condom or exercise-induced urticaria. Don't lose too much sleep over these possibilities.

A couple: .. possibilities come to mind when considering hives that consistently occur after intercourse.  Cholinergic urticaria (hives triggered by heat), contact sensitivity (latex condoms?  although this may more commonly be associated with poison ivy-like rash), seminal plasma hypersensitivity (semen allergy-usually person specific, but also usually a burning sensation).  Can try otc cetirizine.

Cholinergic urticari: This is known as cholinergic urticaria arising during the cooling phase after a rise in core body temperature.  You may try taking an antihistamine about 2 hrs prior to sex or exercise in the future.  Avoid Benadryl (diphenhydramine) if you plan to have sex but the other ahs are usually ok.

Re unprotected sex, go see your Family Doc, GYN or Planned Parenthood to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases/infections. Then talk w/same doc re contraceptive options (goo.gl/2QKlgt). Or start prenatal vitamins if you're trying to conceive. Infertility is 12mo trying w/o pregnan

Boil: Boils are referred to as abscesses, in the medical community.  They can occur from breaks in the skin, which provide a route of infection for bacteria to form an abscess (collection of pus/infection).  When this happens, you may need to see a medical provider who may need to prescribe you antibiotics or incise and drain the abscess.  Some home remedies may include a warm compress and ibuprofen.

Unlikely : But not impossible. Pregnancy can cause about any symptom you can come up with. Sorry. Use birth control. Or be prepared to deal with the consequences. That also includes life-long sexually transmitted disease .
