what exactly is considered a mild fever in a 3 year old and what is a high fever. the thermometers that i have blink red when my child's temperature is above 37.5c. i know that's right for babies but what about 3 years olds?

Above 37.5= fever: Babies run hotter than most older children or adults. Because of that forehead thermometers are not recommended. Use an ear thermometer to get the best temp reading. At 3 yrs old the temperature begins to shift downwards with a high normal reading 37.5. High fever would be above 39. She has to be checked to identify the underlying condition and to check any neurological change, i.e., mental status change.

Drink soothing fluids, use nasal saline rinses and try one dose of an antihistamine to gauge improvement. IF you develop dry cough, fever and/or shortness of breath, contact your PCP.
