i am on antibiotics for a large turf burn that got infected from football. 2x500 cephelax twice a day, and antibotics ointment on wound. i have been using hibiclens to wash the wound, is this safe? the wound is not closed, kinda open but white filled?

: Washing with soap and water, as you wash the rest of your body is adequate for cleanliness. You do not need to use other cleansers to wash your genital.

: A general rule is none of the chemicals in body washes/lotions/creams penetrate the regular skin deep enough to enter your bloodstream. Entering the bloodstream is the only way such chemicals/drugs would affect a fetus. Body wash safety is relative. If you are not allergic to any of its components it would be safe for you.

Hibiclens: Hibiclens is a safe and effective means of cleaning any area of the skin.  However, any antibacterial soap should work just as well.

Accepted Answer

Manufacturer: Contact the people who make this to get the accurate response, but it is probably to distinguish it from other materials in your cabinet so that it does not get misused.  It contains Chlorhexidine and is an antiseptic provided in different carriers.

is it safe to use hibiclens on a daily basis?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Hibiclens or Chlorhexidine is not recommended for use in children 2 months of age or younger.  It is usually not used for more than 2 weeks at a time on a dsily basis.

can hibiclens be used anywhere on the body (except for the head)?

Accepted Answer

Yes: It's often used in some surgical procedures, especially cardiac.  You can shampoo the entire body with it.  Just don't get in the eyes, nose, mouth.
