: Condom does not provide protection against HSV and HPV. A person with HSV can transmit infection even in the absence of visible lesion. Taking antiviral drugs could reduce infectivity.

: Herpes virus can be shedded even without eruptions being present. It is spread by skin to skin contact and if live virus was on the straw the virus can be transmitted. However I don't think It's a very likely occurrence.

If one is infected ion the  labia or other parts of the perineum than a condom on the male partner will not protect him from her viral shedding. There is not test to tell us where one is contagious unless we know where your sores are at with a break out. 

All sexually active couples should now know their herpes status.  Medication may lower the risk.
