Still be careful: Herpes spread by direct contact, especially if active lesions are present.  You should be careful to avoid ALL contact with others to avoid spreading the disease.

Herpes and Sex: This is a vital question and I am glad you asked it.
About 75% of americans have been exposed to the "oral" herpes virus...Now known as herpes type one.  You can transmit this virus at unpredictable times whether you have an outbreak or not.  You can only transmit it from the skin you have been infected at.

It is wise to get the blood tests and your partner to know his status as well. Get tested!

Cold sores: If you have active lesions or the tingling that warns you an outbreak is coming, be careful and do not kiss them. With the exception of young babies and immunocompromised children, kissing on the head should not create a problem.

Herpes Hurts: This is most likely not herpes if there are no pain or other nerve symptoms and no blistering. This must be something else.

i have gen. herpes & symp appeared 5 weeks ago. some have healed and went away. but the ones on the head of penis are still present. will they go away ?

Not without Rx: You need to see your doctor and 1) get tested for other stds as well and 2) start valacyclovir or Acyclovir tablets for the active infection to treat it.  Herpes is not curable and it may recur in the future but the medication will help your body fight it so it goes dormant again.

Herpes simplex: Very different looking conditions. Show them to a doctor if you have any real question. One is a pimple-like structure and the herpes lesions form a tiny blister which opens and leaves a shallow ulcer which is quite tender.

Herpes simplex: Can be early symptoms of herpes outbreak. When this subliminal pain occurs it is not always followed by full blown lesions.  It is not clear why different presentations occur in different individuals.

Herpes Hurts: Herpes is a cluster of very painful blisters that ulcerate and leave open and raw skin to heal. This does not sound like your symptoms are herpes.
