Herpes: Usually herpes spreads from mucus membrane to another mucus membrane or open sore. It is highly unlikely to transmit herpes with contact of healthy intact skin.

Herpes simplex: If the person kissing you has active open ulcer on the lips and there is any direct contact of that with your skin this can happen, but is less common than if the kiss were onto a mucous membrane surface.

Unusual: Herpes simplex is usually transmitted from the infected persons mucosa to another persons exposed mucosa or skin surface so kissing on the cheek would be an unusual way of getting herpes Symplex but it is certainly possible especially if there was any preceding trauma involved but a definitive skin biopsy smear could be done along with consultation with your infectious disease physician

: Possible. But transmission is not that efficient- not EVERY contact = infection, just many.

: If the throat sore was the only symptom, probably it was not herpes. First oral infections with HSV usually cause multiple sores in the mouth, not one; and cannot heal in less than a week or so, often up to 2-3 weeks. And catching herpes from a brief cheek kiss is very unlikely.

Yes: Although transmission is unlikely on intact skin of the cheek, baby skin is much thinner than adult skin, so the risk is higher. Also, since there is virus in the saliva, any trace of it on the lips/mucous membranes could result in inoculation and infection.

Not that simple: Not likely that you got it that way. Not much transmission that way, but possible. Of more interest, most adults already have type 1 and many have type 2. The odds are that you already have type 1 herpes with no symptoms. If you do, you already have it and cannot catch it from another person. A blood test can tell you your status.

No: Some basics: HSV (Herpes simplex virus) infection is ubiquitous and can be transmitted from people who are symptomatic or asymptomatic with primary or recurrent infections;  In 2015, 26% of US children were found to have experienced HSV-1 (causing oral herpes infection) by 7 years of age.
