See your doctor: Any hernia that has bowel involvement should be evaluated and treated accordingly before is too late. You are taking a risk of getting the bowel twisted (strangulation) which will increase complications after surgery.

Yes: If the hernia becomes incarcerate the loop of bowel is trapped in the hernia and may be twisted as is its blood supply. This usually requires emergent attention and probable surgery. Do not delay as the trapped bowel could become ischemic from lack of blood flow and then you have a much more serious and complicated problem.

Yes: An inguinal hernia is a hole in the muscle layers of the abdominal wall which allows a sac of the abdominal lining to come through it.  That sac is open at the base and will, sometimes, allow bowel or fatty tissue or bladder to enter the sac and become irritated, stuck or in worst case injured and gangrenous. Symptoms can vary based on what is in the sac and how badly trapped and irritated it is.

Call your surgeon!: Vomiting and pain in the setting of intra-abdominal adhesions could indicate a partial bowel obstruction or recurrent hernia.  You need to get checked.

: With the strain of weight training, an umbilical hernia may enlarge and allow segments of bowel to enter the hernia sac, so a surgical consult will be a safe alternative to having complications from continued weight training.

Short answer - NO: A femoral hernia repair is done outside the peritoneal cavity, in which the bowel lies.  Only in the most bizarre situation would blood in the stool or intestinal blockage be related to your hernia repair.  An unrepaired femoral hernia can indeed lead to bowel obstruction if the loop is entrapped in the defect.  It should not cause bloody stool. Discuss with your doctor.  Good luck.

is there any danger in taking a more immediate laxative while i've been using miralax (polyethylene glycol) for the past six days? inguinal hernia, need bowel movement.

Yes, risky!: You need an exam if a week on laxatives has not helped. More can be bad for you! Drink lots of water, eat fruits/veggies, try probiotics (sauerkraut, etc). But see a Dr - blockages can be dangerous and other complications can be more trouble than a visit. So, go! Go soon. Best!

i have a spegelian hernia that has bowel incarceration. my doctor is doing an open procedure. how long is recovery?

Pretty quick recover: If you did not have bowel resection , will be out in couple of days , complete wound healing will take 3 wk , even with bowel resection , that is the time needed for collagen formation.
