i had my pap smear the 26th and started bleeding the next morning still bleeding its not heavy unless i wipe, is this normal?? i'm about 3-4 weeks and this is my 2nd pregnancy i didn't do this with my first i'm a little crampy in my back and lower belly

Yes: Pap smears can traumatize the cervix sufficiently to cause slight bleeding for a couple of days. Cramping is also common, and every pregnancy is different.  It is also possible that this represents early signs of a miscarriage but this seems less likely.

Your doc should: Have told u that sometimes it can bleed as long as he didnt see a lesion or tumor then the pap hopefully will be normal , it could come back abnormal, and sometimes bleeding can be from an undiagnosed std like chl or gc so the dco can run those 2 tests with the pap to make sure they are neg.

Bleeding after pap: Get in touch with the doctor or clinic where the pap smear was done. They may want to reexamine you. Also ask if  they found cervicitis or other evidence of infection.

i have an iud inserted in may, i stopped spotting last month. i got a pap smear on tues and i haven't stopped heavily bleeding. is this normal?

Not necessarily: There are 2 types of iud, copper and progesterone.The Progesterone iuds are better at regulating/stopping the menses. The copper iud can be associated with irregular bleeding.Inflammation on the cervix can cause bleeding after the pap. Bleeding could be due to either. You obviously have a provider, i would discuss this with the provider that placed the iud and performed the pap.

No: The Pap brush/spatula can trigger some bleeding from the cervix, sound like it is light, it typically subsides and resolves on its own.  However, if ti continues for more than a week, report it to your provider and follow their advice.

Treat locally: Once a lesion of the cervix starts bleeding the chance is that it will not stop spontaneously.  One could apply laser treatment to stop it or else some form of cauterization.  The easiest way however is to have your physician place a clotting substance such as surgicell against the cervix which should cause enough clotting to stop any further bleeding.

yes: Scraping the cervix to do a pap can cause bleeding after the exam.  A day later there should be no further bleeding.

Pap smear bleeding: After menopause, the decreased estrogen makes the mucosa of the cervical area and the lining of the cervix much more delicate and apt to bleed on contact. Pap smears are sometimes the cause of this kind of bleeding. It should stop within a day or so. If it continues, see your provider.

Irregular bleeding: Irregular bleeding is one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.
