my heart skips every third beat, specially when lying/sleeping. my resting rate is about 56bpm, pressure 105/65, age 38. what could be cause?

Heart skip: Everyone's heart skips. They're more noticeable when you're in a quiet, non-distracted place...like in bed, especially when you lie left side down. If it's especially troublesome, a cardiac evaluation can be done. Meanwhile, avoid caffeine, nicotine, stimulants, excess fatigue, and, if possible, stress.

Palpitations: Palpitations have many causes from anxiety through anatomic and physiologic abnormalities. The feeling of bounding usually relates to the volume of blood pumped with each palpitation. There is no simple single answer for the question. If you're bothered by the feeling should consult a dr. To see if the problem can be clarified.

if seeing someone i love make my heart skip a beat, does that mean i have an arrhythmia?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Technically it may be called arrhythmia but it is very common. It is normal to have at least five extra beats per minute. Just to make sure you don't have anything else i would get an EKG and consider a holter monitor but sometimes simply by listening your heart a physician may diagnose extra beats ( PVC or apc) or atrial  or other arrhythmias that may require treatment.

Needs eval soon: This could be something not serious like an adverse effect from your antihistamine. But it could also be something very serious. Heart beat irregularities occurring that often or multiple times in a row can be serious. You absolutely need to get into your doctor THIS WEEK to have it evaluated. You need a good exam of heart including rate, blood pressure and EKG, and then go form there. MAKE APPT!!

Arrhythmia: A regularly irregular rhythm typically relates to a timed premature beat (either pvc- premature ventricular contraction, or pac-premature atrial contraction).  It can occur spontaneously or as a result of extrinsic stressors than result in Adrenalin secretion.

Interesting: Are you resting every day around that time when you would be more likely to notice it then when you would be more active?  They could be occurring at other times when you are not noticing it. There are some simple tests that can determine if this is the case. If it is truly happening only once a day and precisely at 5:30 it would be reportable, and for that I don't have a good answer.

Ekg: could be afib, could be premature atrial contractions, could be nothing, check an ekg with qualified staff

Unlikely: Acid reflux is unlikely a cause of cardiac irregularity. Skip beats are due to extra beats that arise in the lower chamber ( pvcs) or upper chamber of the heart (pacs) and are often benign.

Palpitations: You are having palpitations, which can have many causes. irregular or rapid beating of the heart can cause the sensation you are experiencing. Sometimes it is just due to anxiety or too much caffeine, but can be other reasons, like Thyroid  disease. it is best to speak with a doctor one on one

my heart skips beats. i started drinking a small glass of whiskey every day and it has completely stopped skipping. why & how did whiskey change it?

Slows nervous system: Even though you're young, you should still investigate why your heart skipped beats - i can't tell the reason unless i saw an electrocardiogram. Whiskey, like any alcohol, slows down the nervous system, sometimes including the heart, especially if the palpitations were related to anxiety. You might want to consider stopping the alcohol and figure out what's really going on, consulting your doctor.
