Yes: Many people have a similar situation. Often, my patients with irregular heart rhythms know when they are "out of rhythm" because they can hear it so.

Heart beat: When you place your ear on a solid or relative solid, the sound conduction through that solid is better than through air, so you may hear the heart.

Superficial Artery: The superficial temporal artery is a prominent artery just in front of the ear. In certain positions like 'laying down with your head on the pillow", the artery is slightly compressed by the weight of your head against the hard bone of the skull.  This allows transmission of sound with each and every pulse of blood that is forced through the compressed artery. If BP/HR are normal, this is normal.

hi, since a week ago, i noticed that i can hear a beat sound (like a fast heart rate) when i am in bed with my ear on the pillow. seems to be a faster beat than my heart rate and i stop hearing it as soon as i change the position of my head. thank?

: What you experienced is normal. If it bothers you, keep your ear off the pillow.

Noise: The sound of our heart beat is muffled by many structures below the chest wall including chest muscles, fat, bone and connective tissue.  Some people can hear the heart beat faintly when in a very quiet setting however usually you need an aid, like a stethoscope.  Ambient noise around us also makes it difficult to hear our heart beats.

Clogged ears: Sounds like your eustachian tubes are clogged - had a cold lately? Been swimming or traveling up and down mountains? Flying a private airplane?  Sky-diving? Scuba diving? Got a lot of wax?

Probably not, but...: Whatever this is, it's obviously bothersome to you. The most likely cause is something called supraventricular tachycardia which means a fast rhythm from the top chamber. Of that, there are 3 common types. A cardiac electrophysiologist can help you sort that out with an "event monitor." if an ep isn't available, a general cardiologist can help.

Yes!: we call it cardiac awareness. No one knows what triggers the realization, but it's a very normal experience. Most patients tell me they hear a hard or forceful beating in their ear.

Palpatations: You probably have a thin chest wall so that your heart beat seems exaggerated. Also see your cardiologist to make sure you dont have an arrhytmia.
