Kerosene: When I was a child, my mom used kerosene on my head to kill (suffocate) the lice. I survived and it worked. Whether you should use it or not, I don't know. Definitely, not recommended in the US, but in Europe it's used as a home remedy.

If there are nits after 7 to 10 days – a 2nd pediculicide tx may be needed.

This may be by sharing head ware, scarfs, combs etc. Or during close encounters with the lice in bedding, clothing etc. It is not passed by animals or non human carriers.Lice mature within 10 days and begin laying eggs attached to hair. They feed on human blood, cause itching, but do not carry diseases.

No: The forelegs of lice are specifically designed for different body hair types.  Head lice are only able to cling to head hair.  Pubic lice specifically attach to pubic hair, but interestingly, can also attach to eyelashes.

Several possiblities: The simplest and most effective way to get rid of lice is to shave the head;  it's 100% effective  100% of the time.  If that's unacceptable, then there are a variety of prescription and over the counter products that will kill them (the otc products are often ineffective).  What ever you use, you will need to carefully and repeatedly pick every single nit out of the hair, or they might come back.

Pediculocide, comb: A pediculocide, like nix (permethrin) or rid is applied.  Follow directions exactly!  this will kill the lice-but it's not immediate.  Next, use a nit comb (i like the lice meister) and comb through each section of hair.  Rinse the comb off after each stroke, to remove any lice/nits in the teeth. Use the nit comb daily x 7 days.  Some pediulocide should be reapplied in 7 days.

School: School require notification but regulrly check if there is one. Case to minimize spread in a classroom or to other classes within the same school.School will require medical documentation that infection is completely gone before reentering school.
