After 12 to 14 weeks: The HCG will typically double every two days during the first trimester (about 13 weeks).  The HCG level will usually peak at about 200, 000 then begin a gradual decline during the midtrimester to a level of 50, 000 to 100, 000.

first 2 hcg tests doubling time 26 hours. then down to 44 hours to double. levels still under 1200. is this a bad sign?

Depends on GA: The HCG 'doubles' in the begining of pregnancy when HCG is above 2000 usually we follow up with ultrasound. A fetal heart beat should be seen at 6.5 to 7 weeks.

Health of Preg: A healthy preg, esp. 1st trimester, will approximately double HCG values every 48 hrs.  Anything less makes your doctor concerned for.Poss miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

Doubling: every 48 hours is a rule of thumb.  Yours are close to doubling. I wouldn't stress out now. Wait till the planned ultrasound......

It really depends: The significance of doubling time depends on how far along you are in pregnancy.  The rate of increase in HCG peaks at about 8-10 weeks then starts declining after that.  If you're less than 8-10 weeks along, then a combination of symptoms, clinical judgment and serial ultrasounds are at least as important as HCG levels in determining the fate of your pregnancy.  Please talk to your OB.

Wide variation: There is a wide range of normal HCG levels in normal pregnancies. What you described is in the normal range.

Heartbeat : At this point you are waiting to see if a heartbeat can be seen on a sonogram. The bhcg is less important at this time.

Ultrasound: Sonograms are useful in estimating due date and conception date, as well as viability.  Blood levels if rising, they should approximately double every 2 days and you are close to that.  Repeat sono in a week is an option as well.
