i had a nurse who pushed phenergan (promethazine) in my hand and it burned so bad now my hand still feels bruised and my vein is hard. how long will this last?

Too long. Get seen!: One of phenergan's black box warnings is severe tissue injury to injected areas due to chemical irritation and tissue damage which causes burning, pain, thrombophlebitis (clots in little veins) and tissue death in the local area injected. If you still  have a hard vein and the burning pain is continuing, you should have it checked out by a physician.  Some cases need minor surgery to treat.

Red, Swollen Hand: This is difficult to answer without getting more history and being able to examine your hand. You need to be evaluated immediately by a physician to make sure you don't have an infection, etc.

Bruise: 7-10 days should be more than enough time for an IV hematoma to resolve.  It will go through a period of being purple, then green, then yellow, and there may still be purple areas at 2 weeks which should be nontender.

Hard to say: If your symptoms are associated with numbness, it could be just too much pressure on a nerve from overnight.  However, bruising would be unusual in this instance.  It would be hard to say without an examination.  I would suggest rest with or without a brace or splint and some nsaids.  If your symptoms don't improve in a week, see a health care professional.

Variable: Is the bruised nerve in the wrist, hand, or finger? As a general rule of thumb (no pun intended), the closer the injury is to the tips of the fingers, the more quickly a bruised nerve will heal. If the injury is near the wrist or forearm, it may take several months or longer for nerve function to return. It is not uncommon to wait a year or more if the injury is close to the elbow!

Xray?: You mean the side with your pinky?  The pinky is commonly fractured when a punch does not land properly and was previously known as a boxer's fracture.  The fifth finger fracture is a little bit more forgiving than fractures of the other digits, but if having a lot of pain or can feel a deformity or crunching it is best to get an x ray and treatment.
