Was it your period: Or was it spotting? The main reason for light periods is a change in hormone levels.  Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: implantation bleeding in early pregnancy, thyroid problems,  eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives & perimenopause.

YES: Condoms are not 100% effective and often leak out semen or ejaculatory fluid: use condoms PLUS spermicidal foam, jelly, sponge or vaginal suppositories. It may be time to consider BC pills and a GYN exam.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Infection,: could be interfering proper flow thru the cervix.  An exam and testing with your doctor is important.

Pregnant?: Do a pregnancy test. You could have experienced an anovulatory period which means your ovary did not release an egg.  That can lead to hormonal abnormalities.

May be nothing: If this is the first 'irregular' bleed, no worries. That happens from time to time. If it persists or recurs, you should see an Ob/Gyn.
If you have unprotected sex, you must rule out pregnancy, of course, as that would be a very good explanation.

Irregular periods: Once or twice is not uncommon, so if your cycle does not regulate at the next month, then see the GYn for an evaluation and some testing to see why your periods are now irregular.  Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) has many causes.

Vaginal bleeding: I would check a pregnancy test as this could be implantation bleeding.  However, it could also just be some breakthrough bleeding from a cycle where you didn't ovulate.  If this continues to be an issue, you probably need to see a GYN physician
