a boil in groin has drained out and it seems to have healed but it at times it itches a-lot. what could be causing that?

: A boil often itches just before it becomes painful &amp; tender. I assume that your infection has resolved, but some residual skin sensitivity in the form of itching remains. If there's absolutely no signs of inflammation present, you could apply a very thin amount of mild cortisone ointment to relieve itching.

Benedryl cream: Boils itch.  If it is swelling up again, it may need to be drained again.  Benedryl cream (unless you are allergic to it) should help.

Drained boil: Try a cold compress for a couple of days, then switch to a warm compress until the wound is completely healed.

You might ask the doctor who did the drainage about prescribing something for the pain.

Definitely: A boil causes such severe inflammation in the skin that it is not uncommon for the skin to remain swollen after the boil drains.  Another possibility is that it is incompletely drained.  Give it a few days.  If it does not resolve, please follow up with your doctor.

on average, how long will a lanced boil take to drain?

Depend on how done: If just lanced, stabbed 2 drain, it may reseal the wound & remain or progress. If cut open and a rrain inserted it may clear in 1-2 wks with proper antibiotics. If unroofed or the top layer of skin over the boil it needs daily or more frequent dressing changes of packing, and heal from the bottom up. This is the surest way of no recurrence &takes longer depending on how wide & deep the boil is.

Appears ok: It sounds like the area is no longer contagious.  I would feel more comfortable if your dr gave you some antibiotics to take by mouth.

See your doctor: Sounds like the infection may be deeper than you were able to drain.  Your doctor may need to attempt to drain more fluid and/or put you on antibiotics.

Yes: Swish and spit with half peroxide and half mouthwash can help. Do not push hard if you are trying to drain it.  Homeopathic hepar sulphricum will also help that heal. Call dentist as well if not improving.

should i get a mrsa boil lanced? i have an abscess from mrsa on the back of the neck at the base of my skull. it is not draining or open. saw dr. two days ago, prescribed septra. it has increased in size over the first night, seems about the same size on

There : There is a possibilty that the abscess you are dealing with is not sensitive to septra (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). If you have not noticed an improvement after about 3 days, then it's likely you will need a different antibiotic, and/or a I&D (incision and drainage). A boil/abscess is an infection directly beneath the skin, and should be of no concern regarding it's location, however if left untreated it can cause an infection in the blood and this is a serious situation that can be life threatening.
Please seek a follow up if not done so already.

Non healing boil: Be examined. Make sure there isn't a underlying reason why this doesn't heal; like a foreign body, diabetes or persistent pressure on the area. You need wound care. All the best.
