are steroid injections safe for knee tendons?

For tendonitis: Yes. If you receive occasional steroid injections for tendonitis or arthitis related to the knee, they are safe. If someone is discussing injecting steroids directly into the tendon, do not do this as it can lead to tendon rupture. However, injection into the intra-articular/joint space is very safe. With a history of reconstruction, make sure the person doing the injection is experienced.

Knee: There is nothing wrong with asking your doctor who injected your knee this question, even if it is after the fact.  Maybe there wasn't enough to drain or draw out.  Ask him or her.

: Steroid injections work by reducing inflammation. This can take 24-48 hours to notice any difference. You should start to feel less pain, pressure and irritation over a few weeks.

Possible, not common: Among the possible side effects of corticosteroids are muscle cramps.  This is not a common reaction.  

If the cramps are bothersome, it would be wise to consult the Dr. who injected your knees.  She would want to know.

ORS: Either can inject your painful arthritic knee. My preference would be an experienced board certified ORS, however, as he or she can treat you medically, and if your pain continues and it is indicated, surgically. Best of Luck!

See details: Epidural steroid injections are usually done by a pain specialist. Any doctor can inject the knees.

Not technically in: A joint injection of sterioid is a local injection and not technically in the blood stream.  Admittedly low levels can go more systemically leading to either positive testing or effect patients with diabetes to throw off their sugars for 24 hours

It shouldn't: While some of the steroid from a knee injection can have a more systemic(widespread) affect, than on just the knee.  It wouldn't commonly exacerbate dry eyes.  In fact for some forms of inflammatory dry eyes, it could make it better!
