i take 75mg topamax (topiramate) 2/day for bipolar.  yesterday i had 4 glasses of wine and had a simple partial seizure while drunk, with motor/visual disturbances.  does this mean i'm prone to seizures?

See your doctor: Not sure why you are so confident that it was a "simple partial seizure."  four glasses of wine is too many on one occasion, especially for a woman, and especially for someone being treated for bipolar disorder. You need a full neurological evaluation, especially an eeg and probably a ct scan, as well as several different blood tests. If you didn't see a doctor after this event, you should asap.

Drug interactions: Many drugs and broken down by the liver, just like alcohol is.  The doses of the medications you mentioned should cause no major concern.  One caution would be not to do this regimen on an ongoing basis.  If there is still a concern, I recommend checking with your  primary care provider.

hi, i had two glasses of wine with dinner. when is it safe to take gabapentin 600mg which i take at bedtime for restless leg syndrome.

Drugs interact: Per Drugs.Com drug interaction checker, use of Gabapentin and alcohol togehter carries the risk of "dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment.". If you take Gabapentin, recommend that you consider stopping alcohol use in the future. If you are going right to bed after taking, would take the Gabapentin tonight.

Be careful: Alcohol and benzodiazepines like valium, Xanax, (alprazolam) klonopin and Ativan are central nervous system depressants, and could be dangerous if taken together. I think you will be okay but please try to not do that again.

Probably: Advil PM is a combination of ibuprofen and diphenhydramine.  Both of these are safe for the liver, which is the organ that helps metabolize the alcohol in the wine. It is much better to take this than Tylenol PM, because alcohol and Tylenol (acetaminophen) are a bad combination because it causes your liver to work twice as hard (they both are metabolized by the liver).

Probably safe.: Xanax (alprazolam) and alcohol are both central nervous system depressants. The dose of xanax (alprazolam) is low and the last drink was 5 hours back.  Assuming that you had a regular size drink and not the big gulp and that you do not have serious underlying kidney or liver disease you should be ok.

Do not mix: It is not safe to mix Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) and alcohol.  Wait until the alcohol is out of your system before taking any medications with cognitive side effects.
