Yes: It would not be unusual at 43 to have some irregular ovulations.  The stringy, clear mucus discharge is characteristic of ovulation.

Testing is important to determine the treatment and keep you and your partner safe.

It might be that he is aggressive and hitting your cervix and causing minor bleeding that is mixing with your normal discharge. If worried, get checked out during the time of the colored discharge.

Infection & hormones: Some vaginal discharge can be normal. As you go through the month your hormones cause changes in the discharge. In some cases though discharge can be a sign of infection. Causes incluse yeast, bacterial vaginosis, and stds. There are simple tests that can be done in the office to determine if this is normal or not.
