Do not recommend: I wouldn't recommend pm type with pregnancy, although some obgyn say that it is ok, however Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is safe to take as well as plain Claritin and zyrtec (not the d type).

Interactions: Taking glucophage (metformin) and antacids shouldn't cause a significant interaction, but i would not take the glucophage (metformin) immediately after taking the antacid or vice versa to ensure good absorption of the glucophage (metformin).

GI issues: Hi. It doesn't really matter. I usually have patients take it before meals, but after would be just as good. Food mitigates the potential GI side effects, but not everyone gets GI side effects; some people do fine taking metformin on an empty stomach. To your good diabetes control!

Idiosyncratic: Burning head sensation is not a commonly reported side effect associated with metformin. A few percent of patients experience headaches but not burning head sensation. Discuss this with your doctor.

One of two things ?: Burning in the head is uncommon with metformin. One possibility is acidosis and the other is hypogycemia. Check your blood sugar if it occurs again. You need to tell the doctor who prescribed the metformin that  you are having this problem.
