See ophthalmologist: If you have pinkeye, you need antibiotic eyedrops, which will also help the sty inflammation. But you may also need an ophthalmologist to open and drain the sty with a local anesthetic procedure in the office. Warm compresses will help the inflammation and perhaps stimulate it to drain on its own, but if it persists, see your ophthalmologist. Dr. Tholen.

Try this: Do warm compresses using dry heat for at least 10 minutes at least once a day followed by lid massages towards the eyelashes. Hopefully, it drains on its own. If not, see an eye doctor!

Apply heat: While many styes are infected, antibiotics generally cannot easily get to them.  Heat is very effective.  Try soaking a washcloth in the very warm (not hot) water tap and putting it on the stye for 4 minutes at a time about 5 times per day.  
The frequency is important - 2-3 times will usually not work.  If persistent after a week of this see your ophthalmologist.

STYE OR HORDEOLUM: Opthalmic  antibiotic ointment applied at least twice a day for 10 days will take care of the infection.

Warm compress: I suggest using cotton ball with warm water for 1-2 minutes 4 times a day. If pain or swelling does not resolve in few days or gets worse see ophthalmologist.

Heat: The application of a warm compress over the eyelid for several periods daily will increase blood flow to the area & promote drainage or resolution of the sty. If a week goes by without resolution contact your pcp & discuss other rx.

Only if it is warm: Warm soaks do increase circulation and help your body's natural infection-fighting mechanism to work better.  I would suggest a warm wash clothe over a tea bag.  Use the tea bag to make tea instead.

Liquify solid lipids: A stye is basicaly a small abcess on the margin fo the eyelid. It becomes painful as the orifice to the glands that line the eyelid (meibomian glands) become plugged with infectious material and bacteria, usually staph. The hot compress helps to  liquify the solid waste products so that it can drain. This and the use of antibiotics help to clear the infection. Topical antibiotics;usually eyedrops.

Local hot packs: Styes are best managed with frequent applications of very warm (not hot) cloths for 4-5 minutes and about 5 times per day on the affected eyelids.  This will usually clear the issue in 2-4 days but if persistent, see your ophthalmologist.
