Treat you: A general pacticioner should be able to treat you competently&d appropriately for a penumonia either as an outpatient or as an inpatient.  Should he or she feel uncomfortable, they most assuredly will seek consultaiton from someone in a specialty field to help them further treat you.  I would feel confident with a generalist physician treating this condition.  Ask questions or seek other opinions.

Yes: General or family physicians can assist you in caring for mcardle's disease in conjunction with a genetic specialist.  Unfortunately this is a genetic disease with no known cure at this time.  So treatment would be in managing the symptoms and complications as well as preventing the complications as much as possible.  Of course these patients also get other problems that are assisted by gp's.

Internal medicine doctors are specialists in the medical care of adults.  They complete 3 or more years of training after medical college and must pass exams to become "board-certified" in internal medicine.
