my 21 month old son has 3 loose stools a day his dr said to give him gatorade but is there anything else i can do for him? food to avoid etc?

Probable viral: Most probably viral gastroenteritis. Need to be careful depending on the age of the kid. Infants and small children can easily become dehydrated and hard to assess how sick they are. Best to check with a pediatrician if not better in 3-4 days.

: By itself the pepto should not be a problem, We avoid adult pepto in kids under 16 as the salicylate in the mix has a minor risk of liver damage syndrome during a flu or chickenpox. Keep the kid hydrated and the issue should pass. If he spooks you have him seen.

Diarrhea: Diarrhea can range from very mild to severe.  For severe diarrhea and associated symptoms, i would recommend going to either the emergency room or urgent care clinic.  Worrisome diarrhea generally would include symptoms such as:  high fever, unrelenting diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, blood or mucous in stool, dehydration, dizziness, or accompanied vomiting.  When in doubt, go check it out.

Diarrhea: If he is not vomiting, give him grates apple high in pectin, and/ or mashed banana high in kaolin. Some doctors recommend a "bratt " diet  - banana, rice, apple, tea and toast.

Depends: The answer depends on the cause.  If you have severe viral gastroenteritis, you want to "starve the virus" and push clear liquids for 18-24 hours, than slowly increase soft foods/"brat" like diet.  The cause od the diarrhea needs to be diagnosed and should be treated appropriately before simply eating.  Good luck.

Yes: Salmonella specifically, among others, can cause diarrhea. Hard boiled eggs should be eaten in 2 hours after being cooked or refrigerated. Check cdc.gov regarding full recommendations regarding tips for reducing risk of infections from cooked eggs.
