i read that gilbert syndrome patients have higher chance of developing gallstones. i have gs and got cholecystectomy due to gb polyp. does that mean that i should worry about intrahepatic/cbd stones? will udca help? out of frying pan into the fire

any alternative treatment for gallstones except laparoscopic cholecystectomy?

No, sorry: If you have symptoms from your gallstones, surgery is the way to go.  After a "lap chole" as we call it in the biz, you'll be back on your feet in a week or two.  I wouldn't advise waiting, if you pass a stone into your bile duct it can be devastating.

i had laparoscopic cholecystectomy 2 mths ago(gallstones),histology confirmed gallbladder has acute&chronic inflamation.do i need endoscopy?

See your physician: The answer depends on what symptoms you have been having.  You list abdominal discomfort and lower abdominal pain.  For the evaluation of those symptoms, you need to see your physician.  With his evaluation, he can answer your quesstion

lipase levels at 10. were at 16 last december. low amylase levels as well. had gallbladder stones for 10 years with recurring attacks. had a cholecystectomy last year in march. why are they so low? should i be concerned? is there anything i can do?

: Your levels of lipase are normal, to my knowledge there is no significance to low normal lipase levels .I would not be concerned in the absence of any symptoms.

i had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy done 6 days ago due to my gallbladder functioning at 0% (no gallstones). each day since the surgery, my nausea has gotten worse despite the use of zofran, pepto bismol, etc. is this normal?

how long will jaundice due to cholelithiasis last after cholecystectomy?

For some times: Raised bilirubin causes jaundice, or yellow pigment on sclera ( eye) both due to obstruction of ducts as in stones or due to liver diseases.  After removal obstruction eye remained stained for a while due to tissue stain , by  Albumin bound  delta bilirubin . Since Albumin has half life of 20 days , so it takes time to clear jaundice completely even though blood levels are normal.

3 questions here: Echogenicity likely from fat deposition-commonly associated with obesity, diabetes, some meds., alcohol. Rx: lose weight, keep diabetes under control, limit alcohol.  Gallstones: no symptoms, no rx. Symptoms: pain, vomiting related to the stones-rx: surgery. Usually belly button (laparoscopic), may have diarrhea for some time after procedure. Always potential for surgical complications.

Pain and Lapchole: You probably have postcholecystectomy syndrome  that describes the presence of abdominal symptoms after surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy), 1-2 years after the surgery. Symptoms of postcholecystectomy syndrome may include: dyspepsia, nausea, and vomiting. flatulence, bloating, and diarrhea.

had gallbladder removal 2 weeks ago.  had black pigment gallstones.  prior to surgery had back pain right upper side. yesterday and today pain is back?

Two possibilities: 1. "Ghost pain" from the AREA fwhich may have had some inflammatory reaction to your surgical procedure
2. the right upper side pain is due to some OTHER issue(s)
Consult first with the surgeon who removed your Gallbladder

how likely are you to have gallstones in the bile duct years after gallbladder removal?

Accepted Answer

Rare but can happen: It is not unheard of to have bile duct stones after removal of the gallbladder.  Usually it occurs within two year of the operation, but can occur later.  An ERCP can usually take care of it.
