See your doctor: It's not likely that friction burns could cause  scar that would persist for years, unless the burn was so severe that your pain would have put you in hospital.

Without a thorough physical examination, it's really not possible to know what you really have, much less what might help. Hence, I recommend you go see your doctor, and look further into this.

Unlikely: It is possible to be allergic to certain material that your underwear is made from.  However, it is also possible that your clothing fits too tightly.  Try underwear of a different fabric and see if this makes a difference.

Simple Care: The good news is that area has fantastic blood supply and so healing will occur rapidly. Inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling) is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. Dressings and ointments are of no value there.  Avoid further trauma to the area and let nature take it's course.

Depends: Depends upon the severity and whether you let it rest or send it back into action before it's had time to fully recover. Should be the same as any other bruise on any other part of your body. If it gets bigger, red or swollen, contact your doctor.

Friction Burn Penis: Time will heal.  You may want to not masturbate for a few days. You may want to put some vaseline or other types of otc creams or gels to protect it from friction from your underwear if this is particularly raw.

Avoid tight clothes: Tight pant , tight underwear are the main reasons for friction that cause tissue damage ( skin irritation )  i advise you wear wider and spacious under wear and pant . Minimize sitting for long time . In general take the pressure off your penis . Good luck.

Scar Tissue: It would be impossible to still have a 'burn' or an 'abrasion' after two years. It sounds like a scar.  I would advise you to see a Urologist to see if this lesion can be treated.

avoid infection: Treat like superficial 2nd degree burn or deep 1st degree burn by keeping the area moist with aquaphore, washing with glycerine soap 2 x per day, and changing to neosporine if the area becomes more red or begins to drain to avoid cellulitis. Should heal within 72 hours.

: It will heal in a couple of weeks provided there is no friction or infection

about two months ago i got what i thought was friction burn on my penis. at first it was red and itchy. redness and itchyness would go down by the next day, i would start flaking for a few days, and then the itch would pick back up. cycle continues?

: Try some OTC cortisone? hydrocortisone ointment/cream for a few days. If it does not go away you need to be seen by a Urologist. Does not sound serious
