Pressure: This is usually caused by pressure on your bladder and is often present in the third trimester

As long as: It doesn't cause premature labor, usually it will have your cervix more ripe when u do go into labor , I am sure your doctor will start checking your cervix at 37 weeks or earlier if you are having too many contractions, and the doc can tell u where u are at.

Braxton Hicks: You are probably having Braxton Hicks contractions. These contractions can sometimes be quite painful. Make sure that you stay hydrated. Labor pains usually become more frequent and stronger with time. You are considered in labor only when the pains cause your cervix to become thinner and the cervix starts dilating. Call your Doctor if yor have vaginal bleeding, or your condition worsens.

Exam needed: Labor is a combination of contractions and a change in the cervix. An exam is needed to know if it is occurring so a woman should notify and go to her OB or labor and delivery.

Call for a ride now: At any gestational age, a patient with persistent wetness or gush of fluid should see an er or OB provider to determine if rupture of membranes (rom), in labor, etc. The same applies if pelvic pressure, pain and contractions. Often nurse or on-call physician will see her and admit for evaluation or, if rom at 35 weeks, for probable labor and delivery. I tell my patients to not delay by eating, etc.

Pregnancy: The difference is that braxton hicks are ineffective and the cervix does not change or dilate.  Real contractions cause the water to break and the cervix to begin changing in preparation of delivery.

Contractions/20wk pr: You should report this to your doctor for advice.  There are many possibilities.  Do not take anything until you discuss this with your doctor.

Old Wives Tale: There are lots of things that are supposed to induce or cause labor.  There are no clear cut studies demonstrating safety or efficacy.  Some are....walking up and down stairs, dark beer, nipple stimulation and intercourse.

Still contractions: Braxton-hicks although normal @ 28 weeks are still contractions. If they are recurrent (> 4/hour), cause pelvic pressure or persistent pain, or increased mucousy vaginal discharge, get checked by your ob. Try to limit any activities that cause these contractions (intercourse, exercise, lifting, etc) & call your OB if any of these signs of preterm labor persist or worsen. Take care.
