No: Freckles are freckles and are benign, early  skin cancer may appear to be a frickle to an untrained eye, .And a compelling  reason to see your doctor for professional opinion.

i had a freckle in the hollow of my neck for 2 years. the past 2 months it has grown into a bump. could this be a sign of cancer?

Could be: It would be prudent to see a doctor. A bump at the site of a mole warrants evaluation and may be removal and examination of the tissue by a pathologist.

Red freckle: Difficult to say without seeing it. Best to see your primary doc or dermatologist to have a look. Statistically, "1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. Between 40-50% of Americans who live to age 65 will have either basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma at least once."  Skin cancers are best addressed early for best outcome. Wear sunscreen daily. Reapply

Unlikely: Cancer is unlikely, however, it is not feasible to know what it is without examining the lesion. It if does not heal in a couple of weeks, it would be prudent to see a doctor.

Probably not: However, since you asked us, you will certainly want to take it to a dermatologist. We can't diagnose at a distance on just a description. Many people have a lentigo or two on the upper body that looks out of place, and if a person feels uncomfortable about it, it's often wise to trust their intuition and simply remove it.

Yes: While rare, it is possible to develop skin cancer on the areola.  Worrisome signs include a mole that is irregular, raised, ulcerated, or bleeding.  When in doubt, it is best to seek out the opinion of a doctor.  A simple biopsy can be performed in the office to determine if it is a cancer.
