Yes - smaller FB: Smaller foreign bodies can sometimes be aspirated (especially by children) with minimal symptoms at the time of aspiration - like a brief coughing fit while eating. I've personally seen cases in children with aspiration of peanut fragments, watermelon seeds etc. Which were causing chronic cough & wheezing but no choking episode was recollected by parents. These were diagnosed on bronchoscopy.

REMOVE FB's: Any foreign body in 'the respiratory tract' probably should be removed. Foreign bodies in the bronchi/trachea of the lungs can cause irritation, cough, infection and bronchoscopy by a pulmonologist is the best way to manage the problem. Foreign bodies in the nasal/sinus areas may be managed by primary care or ENT depending how accessible they are. I have removed tiny objects from toddler noses!

: Usually one would expect the body to expel it as it does stool( and as it expels items that individuals may have swallowed). But  an abdominal film should show something or a sigmoidoscopy  may identify a foreign body. Follow up with gastroenterology.
