i have sunburn on my forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. it has just started to peel and it is kind of bumpy and red. what should i do?

Protect against: further injury, by staying out of the sun and using sunscreensbut avoid the temptation to cover up with makeup.    Avoid breaking blisters or picking at peeling skin. Wash with a mild facial cleanser or soap with lotion.  If pain or redness increase, get evaluation for secondary infection.

Aloe, cool cloth: Find a moisturizer that is unscented, alcohol free and contains aloe.  If you can get your hands on an aloe plant you can just break the leaf open and rub the gel contained in the leaf directly on the burn as well. Cool compresses prior to putting on the moisturizer will also help with the pain. Finally, prevention is the key in the future. SUNSCREEN EVERY TIME you go outdoors or face skin cancer!

Healing Sunburn: If you currently have open blisters i suggest that you see your doctor, or dermatologist. Until the damaged skin has peeled and stablized, i would suggest that you keep it moisturized. After it has peeled, and the surface is normal except for the pink color, you can put makeup over it to try to hide the pink. The color may take months to return to normal and in some cases may never normalize.

Yes: Sunburn is a result of excessive oxidative stress to the tissues of your skin. Lotions that have antioxidant properties can partially reverse some of this damage. This is why coconut oil is so useful. The saturated fats in coconuts have anti-oxidant like effects.

Skin protection: Hi Alliyah,

I'm glad you went camping. Whenever you go for any outdoor activity, wear sunscreen with SPF 35 or higher on exposed skin and protective clothing, like a hat. Reapply the sunscreen every 2-3 hours. Once the skin damaged with a burn, there is little you can do except moisturize it, and be motivated to keep it from happening in the future. Good luck!

Skin infections: Greetings. The multiple boils and pustules should be evaluated by your doctor. An immune evaluation is in order. When infections like this occur, a work up is recommended.
