Do not worry: If you do not have symptoms and do not drink alcohol, an isolated reading of a mildly elevated lipase is not some thing to be concerned about. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Pancreatitis: Hi. What did the doc who ordered the test tell you? We order tests for a reason to either try to confirm a suspicion or rule it out. In your case, it's looking for causes of your abdominal pain and bloating. Your lipase is high, and the most common reason would be pancreatitis, which certainly could be the cause of your symptoms. Pancreatitis can make you very sick. Talk with your doc.

: It depends on the underlying pathological process. Elevation due to mild inflammation would subside in a few days. Acute pancreatitis levels may take a couple of weeks, unless a pseudocyst develops. Why were these tests done. It is better to talk to the doctor who ordered the tests as s/he knows more about your health,

Normal response: Some of the enzyme normally released by the pancreas into the intestine may spill into blood. It is not unique to lipase. Intestine alkaline phosphatase also increases in blood with a meal.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Pancreatitis: Amylase and lipase are both enzymes that can be detected in the blood in the setting of pancreatitis. With inflammation or injury to the pancreas, these enzymes are "leaked" and get in to the blood.

More than a little: Elevated. Elevations of amylase and lipase are usually due to pancreatic damage, and some times due to intestinal obstruction, renal failure. X-ray is not the most sensitive diagnostic tool for pancreatic lesions. Do you drink; or have gall stones? It would be prudent to consult a gasto-enterologist for a proper workup for your level of enzyme elevations.

my lipase level is rising. norm is 176 at gi i was at 178 to 238 now at 293. the levels aren't very high but what things could be causing them to rise?

Ans: Well need to start with a good history of you. Do you drink alcohol?  You will need to follow up on these results and see if they improve. May need a scan so stay with your doctor

i've always been asymptotic, just incidental high lipase finding. had eus, gastros said i do not have cp but have "features" and told me not to worry. i never had pancreatitis. worrisome?

Don't Rx a lab value: Easy does it, buddy. As a pathologist, the most important thing I'd like to share about lab tests is that disease is diagnosed first and foremost by history and physical exam. About one person in 100 has a much-elevated amylase due to an antibody. You may have elevated lipase from this or some other factor delaying its clearance. Give thanks for good health and forget the whole business.
