NO!!!: Food allergies cause life threatening reactions.  These reactions can only be effectively treated with Epinephrine (adrenaline).  Antihistamines can treat skin symptoms, but if breathing difficulty or low blood pressure happen (which is impossible to predict), they will not help.  Anyone with a food allergy should always have Epinephrine available.

At any age: Food allergies can occur at any age although more likely in children. One must be careful not to assume that all food "reactions" are allergic. Diagnosis is done with a combination of history, skin testing (or blood tests), and possible food challenge. These should be done under the direction of a specialist (usually board certified allergist).

Some of the more mysterious skin diseases may also be caused by food hypersensitivity sometimes. Food allergy is best diagnosed by what happens to a person if they eat the stuff; it can be dangerous and needs respect.  Best wishes.
