Atrial Fibrillation : It sure sounds like Atrial Fibrillation, in a 53 years old male. Not related to Esophagus, probably. It is not Esophagitis, probably. Needs to be evaluated soon, though.

Palpitations: Palpitations have many causes from anxiety through anatomic and physiologic abnormalities. The feeling of bounding usually relates to the volume of blood pumped with each palpitation. There is no simple single answer for the question. If you're bothered by the feeling should consult a dr. To see if the problem can be clarified. GI gas could cause palpitations

See a G.I. Doctor: Your surgery was to treat a hiatal hernia, you could still have residual hernia, esophageal spasm or just esophageal reflux. You need to see a good gastroenterologist (GI) doctor for an endoscopy.

Do U have Achalasia: Achalasia is defined by absent peristalsis in the esophagus &amp; incomplete relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (les).  It may be a "primary" esophageal motility disorder, or "secondary" to cancers invading the les (pseudoachalasia), chagas disease from reduviid bug bites, amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, eosinophilic infiltration. Similar motor abnormalities can be seen with diabetes &amp; ciip.

? palpitations: Sounds th o me like youate describing palpitations,  where the heartbeat is not regular and often described as a fluttering sensation. There is a long list of things that cause palpitations.  High up on the list is medication side effects. Have you started any new meds around the time this started. Can also be metabolic disorders like thyroid problems. Best to discuss with your physician !
