Infection & hormones: Some vaginal discharge can be normal. As you go through the month your hormones cause changes in the discharge. In some cases though discharge can be a sign of infection. Causes incluse yeast, bacterial vaginosis, and stds. There are simple tests that can be done in the office to determine if this is normal or not.

No, not to worry.: If you have a change in color, texture, odor or amount of vaginal discharge ; problems such as pain, itching burning with urination or sex or redness/swelling  then it is best to see your gynecologist for evaluation ; accurate assessment.

Blood is blood: Blood is blood. It can have all different appearances depending on how old it is and how long it has been sitting in the vagina or uterus. There is really no need to analyze the appearance of blood.

Maybe : It is hard to assess vaginal discharge when someone is on their menstrual cycle. You could compare what you're experiencing now to the menstrual cycles you have had in the past. If this is not normal for you then you can schedule a visit for a evaluation.

Yes: As the tissue from your uterus sloughs off, a brown color is very common.

If it persists beyond your period, talk to your obgyn for a check up.

Coincidental: Hi. I doubt that clitoral masturbation has anything to do with the vaginal discharge you describe. Clitoral masturbation will definitely moisten the vagina, and orgasm will cause uterine contraction among other things. However, the brown/red discharge almost sounds like part of a period. When in your cycle did this occur? If it is abnormal vaginal bleeding, please see your gyn. Good luck!

Uterine lining: Each month, the lining of your uterus which is made up of 'mebraneous material" grows in response to hormonal stimulation preparing for possible implantation/pregnancy. If no pregnancy occurs, this lining is shedded (because of drop in hormones (estrogen, progesterone) at end of cycle resulting in menstrual flow and thus you see the "membraneous tissue." hope that makes sense. Bacterial vaginosis?: The only way to really know would be to go in and get tested. Bacterial vaginosis is often worse during and after a period. This would be high on my list as a possible cause.

Hard to guess: It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. An Ob-Gyn doctor can evaluate any persistent or worrisome symptoms.

Examination: This could be either yeast or bacterial infection.  If the itching is mostly outside then you can try an over the counter medication like Monistat or gynelotrimin (clotrimazole).  Otherwise its probably time to see you physician (family or gyn)
