Avoid spicy foods: Take 4 tablets of dulcolax at night. Next morning you will have good bm and it will clean your colon. Then take Reglan (metoclopramide) 10 mg , one tablet at night for 2 weeks.

What's the cause?: Flatulence neither localizes your problem to the small or large bowel, nor indicate severity or cause. You have described a gut that may be dysfunctional--but is this due to infection, sibo, motility problems, inflammation, ibs, ischemic disease, maldigestion, sphincter problem, etc.? Evaluation is key, so see your doctor. Examination of your present diet, &amp; use of probiotics, may help for now.

More questions: Many people who have this issue have issues with chronic constipation and then have anal leakage such as stool soiling on their underwear.   Do you have any other symptoms ?  You may need to see your doctors.

Yes: Having a rectum full of stool just sitting at the anal opening adds to the smell of gas. 
It is not healthy to keep a rectum full of stool. It is an old wives tale that taking laxaties casues a lazy bowel. It is most healthy to move the bowels once a day with a soft, easy to pass bm. If it takes a "kick in the butt" or a "laxative" , then so be it.

Lactose intolerance: is most frequent but not the only reason.  Stay away from milk in all forms

If not actual gas...: This could be a hygiene issue and you may need to change soaps or work on different means of showering. If it is not hygiene related, may be some type of infection, either a fungal or bacterial overgrowth. Certain creams may help. If you are having any pain related to this, you may have an abscess of some type and this will need to be checked by a physician. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Downwind : I think it depends on the direction of the wind.  Bacteria in the colon make the gas,  all 1000 trillion of them. It depends on the type you have and the ratio of one species to another. This is always changing with over 10000 different species of bacteria.
