Depending on the cause of the fistfuls would dictate best treatment options. For Example if this was from diverticulitis, surgery would be the best option but if this was from Cohn's then medications may heal this. I suggest discussing with a surgeon

Here's why: Here's why we don't place IVs in fistula/shunt.  First, blood flow is high pressure in them and would force blood backward through IV.  Second, placing an IV into the fistula/shunt by staff who aren't used to it often injures the fistula/shunt resulting in issues like pseudoaneurysms.  Shunts/fistulae are important so we save them for your dialysis!
