Accepted Answer

No: "all in your head" implies anxiety or neurosis or psychosomatic symptoms. The widespread pain may have a neurologic basis such as imbalance in brain chemicals. However, it is not the same as anxiety or depression. The key is weight control, exercise, and if necessary, medications to control the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

can forward head posture cause fibromyalgia. i can't fix this problem it's causing all sorts of awful symptoms and i don't know how to fix it.

Fibromyalgia: Not likely. In most cases, cause is unknown, but treatment is available. Consult a rheumatologist.

Not likely, but can!: This is not a typical fibromyalgia complaint, but I have seen unusual ones. I would see someone to excluded other causes!

Possibly: If the pain is generalized and there are areas of soft tissue tenderness, then it is likely fibromyalgia. Localized pain just to the neck and shoulder areas is unlikely to be fibromyalgia.

i am a 47 year old female who suffers from fibromyalgia, during a flare i often suffer when turning my eyes from side to side or turning my head.?

Try this: It is important that you take a medicine that is specific for fibromyalgia to settle down symptoms and also prevent the flares.  Would suggest lyrica, cymbalta, or savella (milnacipran) as first choice group.  Gabapentin may help, but the form Gralise may work better.  Stay exercised and fit, and avoid narcotic meds.  The eye issues may relate to a low grade fever.

Local myalgia: Muscle co-contraction (i.e., muscle splinting) is a reflex protective response that is mediated through the cns. It results in muscle tightening (i.e., guarding) to protect the injured part. Usually there is no pain until the injured part is moved. To be included in the diagnosis of fm, the pain should be located in at least three out of four quadrants of the body or along the entire spine.

They are Different: Each is an independent diagnosis, even if some people have one, two or even all three together.  If you do not have easy access to a doctor, consider looking online for your local community mental health center and for local community health clinics that serve those without resources.

Probably not: Fibromyalgia affects both right and left sides of the body, above and below the waist.  There are several things that might cause your symptoms-e.g.-trigger points (painful bands inside the muscle), facet joint arthritis of the lower neck or upper back (especially if you were in an accident with a whiplash injury), disc tears, and subluxation of the joints between the rib and vertebrae.

See a specialist: The best treatment for a headache is to know what type you have.  See a headache or orofacial pain specialist for evaluation and management.

Yes: Fibromyalgia  causes widespread pain in muscles.  It is possible that with use, a smaller area of your body has more intense symptoms.   Underlying the fibromyalgia you may have arthritis of the cervical spine which increases the possibility of your symptoms.  Isolated areas of pain which last over 3 days and do not respond to rest, massage or stretch need to be examined by your physician.
