Risk factors for men in particular are obesity, tobacco use and alcohol consumption, as well as dietary factors such as the intake of caffeinated beverages and foods. Symptomatic treatment with antacids and changing eating habits, may suffice.

Maybe gastric reflux: I suggest that you keep a food diary and see if this is related to any certain types of foods that you eat. Best to sit up after you eat for at least 4 hours and avoid liquids with eating. Try to avoid talking and eating at same time. This could be related to sinus congestion. Throat swab: If you feel that there is something , please get throat swab. Sometime it might be due to acid reflux to the esophagus as well.

See your doctor: Looking at your swallowing with radiographic studies such as a barium swallow might provide some answers for you. Your primary care doctor can order such a test. You may also need to have an evaluation by a gastroenterologist, who can do endoscopy (camera tube to look at your esophagus) or manometry (which measures the contractions and function of your esophagus).

Related to tonsils: The dark thing from throat that has a bad odor may be a tonsilith or tonsil stone. This is seen when there is chronic infection or inflammation(irritation) in your tonsils. See an ENT doctor.
