No.: Fatty liver is a condition that is not painful. However, pain under your right ribs could indicate another problem. Gallbladder disease comes to mind first. Certain lung conditions may also cause pain in that area. Inflammation of the stomach may also cause discomfort under the right ribs. Complete: Medical evaluation is indicated, full medical history, hepatitis testing, ultrasound liver & gallbladder, may possibly need liver biopsy. Don't drink alcohol, be careful with minimal use of tylenol (acetaminophen).

Pain may be "normal": The liver has no nerves inside; they are all on the outside (capsule).  Pain felt in the area of the liver (usually upper right side of abdomen) could be also caused by gall bladder, colon, rib, lung, or other internal organ.  Gas in the colon or a stone in the gall bladder could cause you pain. Test results may help.

will noraflex hurt my liver?, having bad liver pain. i have inflammatory liver, fatty liver, and my ra dr put me on this about a month ago.

Probably okay to use: Norflex (orphenadrine) is a drug used to treat muscle spasms.  It does not have reported toxicity to the liver, but for long-term use, it is recommended to check liver tests.  In your case, your liver disease is likely due to being overweight, with or without diabetes.  In addition, smoking is harmful to your liver, especially with another cause of liver disease.  See a hepatologist, eat healthy and lose weight.

For sure: Particularly if patient had IV contrast with CT it is more difficult to detect fatty infiltration. Uncontrasted CT is more sensitive for fatty change in the liver. Usually some elevation of liver enzyme tests in significant fatty infiltration.

Yes: This could be the fatty liver progressing.  You should be seem by a gastroenterologist, a specialist in diseases of the liver, for appropriate testing to discover the source of the pain.

Could be Gallbladder: Gallbladder disease is common in people who lose a lot of weight.  See your local doctor about getting that worked up.  Operation is frequently helpful.

Reverse risk factors: Fatty liver is incredibly common, predominantly due to: high alcohol intake, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity. The more of these risks you have, the greater the chance of fatty liver. Addressing these risks is an important step to correcting fatty liver. Distinguish hepatosteatosis (fatty liver) from steatohepatitis (fatty liver with abnormal liver tests that risks cirrhosis &amp; liver cancer).

Post op pain: This is likely post operative pain and not pain from your fatty liver. I assume your operation was done laparoscopically, the gas used to inflate your belly can cause discomfort and be slowly reabsorbed and it could also be post surgical discomfort that can last for a couple of weeks post operatively. Failing livers don't generally hurt, liver inflammation usually does.

NO: Whatever side effects you had with accutane 3 years ago are long gone and forgotten. See a gastroenterologist or hepatologist for best results.
