Urticaria: Cholinergic urticaria is a rash brought on by physical stimulus. The stimulus might be heat but thought also to be sweating. Hives last a short time. It develops usually in response to exercise, bathing, in heated environment, or emotional stress.

Only 1 day?: If this occurred only for a day, it would be hard to give you an answer. There is however a condition known as exercise-induced anaphylaxis which may occur with exercise alone, exercise + an allergenic food(which would not cause problem otherwise),  or exercise + any food. Only time would tell.

Hydration &amp; moisture: dry skin in winter is common, in your case you may have urticaria, an allergic skin condition of several types, and gets stimulated by different agents, temperature change is a powerful physical agent in such cases, you need to see a dermatologist or an allergist, meanwhile keep yourself well hydrate even in winter, moisturize your skin well right after bathing with a cream saop, goodluck

why i am getting itchy hives while exercising? this is just started 2 weeks ago. i got hives mostly on arms and shoulders sometimes on back and legs.

Many answers: The most common type of hives associated with exercise is called cholinergic urticaria which however usually occurs after and not during exercise.  Nobody knows for sure why this happens.   Since yours occur during exercise, I am not certain that we are talking about the same thing. Try taking an antihistamine 1-2 hrs prior to exercise  and see if it helps.

small lump under skin at side of neck for 3 months. rock hard. no pain. about 1cm. also recently been having hives after exercising which is so itchy. 15 headaches a month on amitriptyline forit, could all this be related? should i get lump seen too?

Concerned: These symptoms could be related and need to be evaluated by your doctor. The persistent lump is concerning as well as the hives you are having. A thorough look at your physical status and blood count with chemistries would be a good place to start.

should i take benadryl (diphenhydramine) before exercising to try and prevent exercise induced extremely itchy painful hives all over my body and sore throat?

No: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can be too sedating. Take zyrtec, Allegra or Claritin every morning for 2 or 3 weeks and see if the regular use of one of these meds will prevent it. If it continues, see an allergist and/or dermatologist.

Vasodilation: These symptoms are caused by dilatation of your blood vessels.Try lukeworm showers.It would good to
discuss with your physician if symptoms persist.

Itchy, red, raised.: Hives are itchy, red, raised lesions on the skin and they usually happen after contact with or ingestion of something you're allergic to.  Try some benadryl, (diphenhydramine) cold packs, and see your doctor if they get worse!
