Cofactor: Vitamin b, particularly B12 but to some extent most of the b vitamins helps couple with nervous system.  Your nerves need certain amount to function optimally.  So need to make sure you have adequate amounts or people feel either nervous/apathetic or generally drained.

Find the cause: If you have access to injectable iron, especially some of the new intravenous stuff, you can be near-well in a few days. If not, oral iron as tolerated. The fatigue precedes the anemia. It's unfortunate anyone suffers with this stuff. Try to find why you have it. It may be your monthly loss, your diet, pregancies, a bleeding ulcer, hookworm, or any of several other causes.

Take Vitamin D!: I assume your diagnosis was made based on a blood test showing a very low level of 25-hydroxyvitamin d also known as calcidiol. If that is the case, and assuming that there is not a problem with you absorbing d from the gut, you can take 2000 unit of vitamin d supplements a day for a few months and then drop down to about 1000 units a day. You should consult with the doctor who made the diagnosis.

: Very easy to check for Vitamin D levels via a blood test, which your doctor can order.  Fluctuations of type you describe is NOT due to Vitamin D levels, as this is a fat soluble vitamin whose levels are fairly consistent day to day.  Have your doctor evaluate this also.

: About 60 mg of iron per day is usually stuffiest. Take it with food.  If you get constipation on taking iron - You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.
