Handwashing: Good handwashing and avoiding those individuals who are ill are prevention measures. Herbal remedies are not as well tested but may shorten the duration of a viral illness and help to relieve symptoms. Nasal saline rinses and cool air mist for cold symptoms may be effective and the herbal remedies are not needed.

Fever rare after 5-6: Most individuals with influenza have resolution of fever and chills by 5-6 days, but may have lingering fatigue and cough.  If you still have significant fever, you may be experiencing a secondary infection or other illness and it would be time to get evaluation.

Another bug: Flu like means that it feels like the flu but that the testing for the flu bug was negative.  Many other bugs (viruses in this case) can cause similar symptoms.
