Elbow arthroscopy: Not sure what your question means. If you mean care after elbow arthroscopy then this should have been explained by your surgeon. Normally you would work on range of motion, take pain medication as needed, and wound care for the small incisions.

i had left shoulder arthroscopy back in 2007. early july i woke with a stiff neck thats now gone, but there is a lot of discomfort and some pain in my left shoulder that shoots down to my elbow and fingertips which get tingly/numb. whats wrong?

Nerve damage: Nerve inflammation or damage may be one possible cause. Please see a specialist for neurologic assessment.

two months ago i had a knee arthroscopy and aspirated as i was being extubated. developed aspiration pneumonia.  within a week i started having symmetrical pain in my knees and elbows.  it has not abated and in fact is worsening.no swelling or erythema.

Aspiration pneumonia: It could well be related if you were septic due to the pneumonia, but at this time it purely theoretical.

Arthroscopic surgery: Have an evaluation with your orthopedist who did the surgery. Physical therapy for sure.

after arthroscopic surgery on rotator cuff is it normal to have severe pain in the elbow and stabbing feeling in hand?

Post op pain: No, but is is unlikely do to the surgery itself. Is it the forth and fifth fingers? If so i would highly suspect a ulnar neuropathy. This nerve is located where we call the funny bone. It can cause pain in the elbow and hand. Ask your orthopedist to evaluate.

Depends: It really depends on what your diagnosis is and what was done at the time of elbow arthroscopy.  In my practice, it is common to use a sling for a short period of time after most arthroscopic elbow surgeries.

Best to ask your surgeon what his specific protocol is.

is it possible to move your arm after arthroscopic elbow surgery?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Not only can you, but usually you're encouraged to move it early and often after surgery.  Ice is helpful to reduce swelling.  Anti-inflammatories are also usually encouraged, like Ibuprofen or naproxen.  Confirm with your surgeon.

Dependent: It is surgeon depend and which ever they choose will be better, as long as they are skilled or comfortable with their choice.  It's best to rely on your surgeon's advice because they will choose the best procedure and the one they are most comfortable with.  It's not prudent to select surgeon's based on procedure, but rather, their quality as a surgeon.  Best of luck.
