Berber carpets: Yes the carpet can give your child allery symptoms. I wouldnt encourge your child to crawl on the carpet because of the things you mentioned and because of the wool as well.

Several ways: Get rid of carpet in bedrooms and stuffed animals in the bed.  Wash the sheets and pillow cases in hot water weekly.  Finally, get the hypoallergenic sheets and pillowcases at the store.  All those measures should help.  If not, then needs an app't with an allergist.  That child might be a candidate for allergy shots in the future if those measures and/or meds don't help.

Yes: I have seen some of those side effects with zyrtec, though not often. You can try claritin syrup or allegra syrup and see it they have little or no side effects. An alternative would be a nasal spray like Flonase or nasonex (mometasone). Good luck

Keep away dust collectors - books, stuffed animals from bedrooms. Encase mattresses and pillows in dust-mite resistant material.
