There are multiple: Negative side effects to eating disorders: weight loss and gain, dental problem, heart conditions, low self esteem, dystrophic body image, social isolation, shame, depression, death from starvation, men's traction interruption to name just a few. If you or someone you care about seems to have an eating disorder, get them help sometimes the symptoms cannot b turned around and leave permanent damage.

Medically, though, the definition involves measurable adverse effects on the person's health.
