Complex decision: Whether or not ablation of your vestibular nerve (8th cranial nerve) will help with your balance problem depends on the cause (EG, size and location of the original tumor). Need a repeat CT/MRI to ensure no regrowth. Additional radiation may help if the tumor has grown. If the cerebellum isn't affected, and if you have no hearing, nerve ablation may a reasonable option. The : The facial nerve (also called "cranial nerve seven" or "cranial nerve vii") is the nerve that moves the muscles in the face.  There is one for each side of the face.  If facial paralysis is caused by damage to the facial nerve on one side of the face, there are several options available.  These options include using another working nerve on the damaged side, or connecting part of the facial nerve on the good side to the damaged side of the face.

The number of options and techniques used is steadily growing, largely due to the knowledge gained in an effort to repair injuries sustained in modern warfare.

A discussion with a plastic surgeon is a first step.

Acoustic Neuroma: Hard to see until the get to be a certain size. Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential Testing can detect the problem months to years before the tumor is visible on MRI. It is sensitive but not specific.

Not a tumor: Might enquire about potential problem in distribution of greater occipital nerve.  Some migraine variants such as "ice pick" headaches may present this way.  Most neurologists can readily sort this out.

I would recommend that you speak with your primary physician to have him evaluate by looking into your ear.
