Back pain: Degenerative disk disease is a breakdown of the spongy disks that separate the bone disks that make up your spine. Basically think of them as jelly donuts. Over time the 'jelly' and starts to bulge and can put pressure on the nerve roots as they exit the spinal column. This pain can be positional due bending forward/backward/sideways which can cause the bulge to change.
