Talk to your doctor.: Lower hormone birth control pills have been found to have lower side effects and be equally effective.  They might be more expensive, but not a bad idea.

Protected sex: If you took your active pills correctly, you won't get pregnant then.

Hormones can help,: getting checked for insulin resistance/polycystic ovarian syndrome, may also be helpful. Sugar throws the hormones further out of balance.

Single or nonhormone: Many women are sensitive to the one or both of the hormones in the pill. All hormonal birth control have a variant of the same hormones- estrogen and/or progesterone.  If you are specifically sensitive to estrogen, then try a Progesterone only option- pill, implant, or iud.  If you are sensitive to both then a nonhormonal iud. Please remember that only condoms help protect against stds & pregnancy.

Abstinence, condoms: Those are your non-permanent options. Withdrawal method has a high fail rate of 20%. There are permanent options too, but i don't recommend these for your age as there is a high risk of regret.

Hyperthyroidism: Can alter the metabolism of the ocg, but otherwise the pills are a much higher dose of hormones that you body can possibly produce and they dominate.

Many.: The synthetic hormones that are used for contraception are, in general, very safe. The risk increase in women over 35, who smoke, and for women with certain medical conditions.

Estrogen dosage: The original pill contained 150ug of estrogen. Over the last 50'years, the dosages have dropped to 35 and 30 ug - relatively higher dosages - to 20 ug - low dosage - to a newer 10 ug pill - the lowest available.  Benefits can include shorter, lighter periods and possibly improved safety and effectiveness - with increasing the days taken from 21 to 26.

Yes: Ortho-cept is a "monophasic" birth control pill.  That means all the active pills contain the same amount of hormone.  It is a 21-7 pill meaning there are 21 active pills and 7 placebo pills.  You would get your period during the placebo pills.
