Viral?: Since it is near winter in NZ, you may just have the flu (or a type of viral infection)   If the symptoms get worse or persist beyond 2 wks, be sure to see a doctor.

Dry eyes runny nose: No fever?  Sounds like seasonal allergies.  An antihistamine may help. Symptomatic treatment like steam, hot tea and acetaminophen can be given.  Could also be a cold.

Dry mucous membranes: When the mouth or nose gets dry normally present bacteria types can change which in turn may effect taste and smell. Some medications and allergies can cause these findings as well. An autoimmune process called Sjogren's can do this and can be serious. Taste and smell changes can occur if the hippocampus part of the brain is disrupted. You should see your doctor and be examined and tested.
