Fussy with a cold: At 8 months, especially during the winter time, it is common for infants to be getting upper respiratory infections. They have lost all the immunity they got from you through the placenta and have to develop their own immunity by getting infections. As long as there eating well, you don't have to do much for a cold. Just suck out the excess mucous. If the child remains fussy, have her ears checked.

Never: Once you have herpes simplex in your body it never goes away.  Even in the absence of overt lesions there may still be viral shedding.  My bet is that if you were tested it would show that you have developed antibodies to this, showing that you were previously infected, but not everybody becomes symptomatic.

Viral uri: A runny nose is most commonly caused by a viral upper respiratory infection. Other causes include allergies, excessive tearing (tears drain out the nose) and very rarely a leak of cerebrospinal fluid (usually only after trauma). Of these, only allergies are likely also to cause symptoms in your chest.

GERD : Sounds like you're having acid reflux while sleeping. If you notice heartburn at night, I would use antacids such as Tums (calcium carbonate).  Avoid any foods that you notice bring on the problem. Cut back on caffeine and alcohol, and stop smoking if you do. I would consider tilting the head of my bed. If these maneuvers don't work, see your doctor for some medication. Good luck.

Canker or cold sores: Cold sores are caused by HSV (virus) and occur on the outsides of the lips.

Canker sores are on the inside and are more due to stress and not caused by a virus.

Laser treatments are also used to treat cold sores.

Skin irritation : Frequent showering, especially if the water has a lot of minerals in it, hard water, and a soap that is irritating or drying is used; the cold weather along with the drying effect can irritate the skin. You can combat this by using soft water, moisturizers after bathing, avoiding soaps that are drying or irritating.
