Accepted Answer

No: I do not depend on ovulation predictor kits. There is too much variability with them and they are not as accurate as we think.

with mittelschmerz, do you see a rise in basal body temperature?

Accepted Answer

Not specifically : Mittelschmerz is merely ovulation pain.  If the pain is related to ovulation the temperature should rise that day or in the next two or so.  Very stressful for patients to do the temperatures.  We recommend for regular cycles not to worry about this measurement.  If cycles are not regular or 28day, you should seek some assistance.

can morning low basal body temperature be a sign of hypothyroidism mine between 96.08-97.7 for the last 18 mornings (before rising).

Accepted Answer

May be hypothyroid: If you are not very ill, which can lead to a low temperature, and the temp is below 97. 6, you may be hypothyroid. Remember, 98.6 is average, normal can be 1 degree above or below. The temperature normally goes down at night and is lowest about 4:00-6:00 A.M. About 2 hours before awakening. Then it can be as low as 97. Tsh testing will be the most sensitive test to diagnose hypothyroidism.

is it normal to have an anovulatory cycle? i measure my basal temperature every day and it hasnt risen this month but i felt disconfort in my right ovary this month so i am unsure if i ovulated. i stopped taking the pill in august?

: Stress (job, emotional, school, COVID anxieties) can delay ovulation, which will delay onset of menstruation. Ovarian cysts can cause pain, so see your GYN physician for testing and possible ultrasound.

i am charting my cycles with my bbt. my husband and i had (unprotected) sex the day of my temperature rise, so 1 day after ovulation. is it possible to get pregnant?

Yes: It is possible, but the most fertile time for intercourse is 2-3 days before  ovulation.

Accepted Answer

Varies: The egg typical survives and awaits fertilization in the reproductive tract for up to 24 hours.  Basal body temperature rises not from fertilization but from the increase in Progesterone as a result of the lh surge at the time of ovluation.  This surge is what is detected in home ovulation predictor kits.  Implantation bleeding is inconsistent sign of pregnancy but can occur 1week after fertilizes.

Very unreliable: Basal body temperature is notoriously unreliable. In the days before home ovulation kits this was a commonly used tool but it still was not very accurate as small fluctuations in temperature are a normal part of physiology. If you are trying to track ovulation you are better off using a home ovulation kit

i have taken duphaston at day 17 after my last period i took two pills for 10 days and then after 6 days of stopping i have been feeling like sick and my body temperature rises and i still feel like i need a blanket i think i might be pregnant ?

Hard to tell...: It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If fever occurs, a doctor can check for a typical illness or infection.

hi.am taking my beta hcg today. i did a 3 day transfer and i at times feel feverish, tender breast and a little temperature rise. could i be pregnant?

?: You must call your ob-gyn. These symptoms could be the sign of something "brewing" other than a pregnancy.
