Metformin: Metformin is considered a weight neutral drug..  In clinical trials, the typically weight loss is around 2 kg.  The main advantage for metformin is that it does not cause weight gain which is what we always worry about with diabetes drugs.  Your bmi is 22.8 which is excellent.  I wouldn't worry about it.

i am supposed to be taking synthroid and i stoped because i just kept forgetting. im having a hard time losing weight- could that be why? or part of it?

TAKE YOUR MEDICATION: IF YOU ARE TAKING SYNTHROID THAT MEAN THAT YOUR THYROID FUNCTION IS NOT ADEQUATE, AND YOUR GLAND IS NOT PROVIDING THE PROPER AMOUNT TO YOUR BODY, THYROID HORMONE IS VERY ESSENTIAL TO YOUR BODY FUNCTION, YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR MEDICATION SERIOUSLY AND IN TIME, AND YOUR THYROID FUNCTION MIGHT NEED TO BE CHECKED EVERY 3 MONTHS UNTIL YOUR LEVEL IS BACK TO NORMAL, AND EVERY SIX MONTHS AFTER THAT

Ideally, none: Thyroid hormone in any form is not a weight loss product.  Many people, especially those with weight problems to begin with, find that taking too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain just as easily as taking too little thyroid hormone.  Thyroid hormone should be adjusted to match what the body would make if the thyroid were working normally., and should be weight-neutral.

Yes: It's a thyroid medication not available in the u.S .  As with any other thyroid medication, if you use too much, you can cause weight loss.  There are many detrimental side effects with using too much thyroid hormones.  Be careful.

Diet, exercise: And self control. If you're on the right dose of synthroid (thyroxine) and your thyroid level is normal, you're just like anyone else. If you eat less than you burn off, you'll lose weight. All the pills, supplements, aids, etc. Are worthless garbage. The only weight you'll lose from them is in your wallet. Don't get  your medical information from friends, tv or the internet.

It : It sounds like you have had a very complicated course since your thyroidectomy.  Your symptoms really concern me (high cholesterol, anxiety, rapid pulse), and i would suggest that you should have a complete endocrinology evaluation, but you may also have other issues going on.  You can't be both hypo- and hyper-thyroid, but there could be co-existing conditions.  Please notify your doctor and have a complete evaluation of your symptoms.

Careful of caffeine: As you may already know, many of theses so called "diet" supplements contain caffeine or caffeine like ingredients that tend to raise heart rate. Those who have hyperthyroidism, especially if not treated or under treated, can be at risk of cardiac arrhythmias/fainting spells if large amount of caffeine ingested.

Vitamin D..: The usual recommended daily dose of vitamin D is between 1000 to 4000 IU unless you are significantly deficient. It is however important not to take excessive amounts since too much could be toxic so in order to take more than 4000 u discuss with your doctor and levels should be measured.  It's role in weight or weight loss is not fully clear though.

XLS: With 150 of thyroxine you should have enough medicine to prevent weight gain and may help weight loss. Have your doctor repeat your thyroid labs - you may need more thyroxine. You must also take good control of your diet  and exercise regularly.

i have hypothyroism. i take 50mcg thyroxine and 20mcg of tertroxine daily. i exercise intensly 3xweek and eat 1200cal/day and no weight loss help!
